Tendenze Online: a user-friendly platform

Tendenze is the magazine and house organ of GS1 Italy, one of the 116 GS1 non-profit organizations that promote the use of GS1 standards, the world's most widely used standards for business-to-business communications: we have worked on the new platform, also improving the user experience and performance.

The initial situation

GS1 Italy is a non-profit organization that represents GS1 in Italy and brings together more than 40 thousand companies. It provides solutions, services, information and best practices to improve sustainability and efficiency in the FMCG, Healthcare, Logistics, Foodservice and Construction supply chain.

Tendenze is the magazine and house organ of GS1 Italy, independently reporting on changes and challenges in FMCG and the economy for professionals and consumers.

Scenarios, data and opinions to face the digital transformation with awareness.

The platform needed a new look, improved performance and an increasingly intuitive and accessible user experience, which GS1 Italy worked on with 5A Design. 20tab was responsible for developing the user interface, customising Wagtail CMS to support the editorial team and migrating 10 years of content.

Implementation activities

The Tendenze project involved 20tab - in partnership with GS1 Italy's internal IT team - in the development phase of the platform, which needed to be modernised to provide editors and users with a more efficient and user-friendly solution.

Before and during the more technical phases of the project, we were involved in the actual project management, in constant alignment with the client's business, branding, and magazine distribution goals. Together with the client, we created a roadmap that highlighted the key milestones for building the platform.

We used Django and Wagtail to develop the portal and implement a number of custom features to help content managers in their day-to-day work. We then integrated the UX and UI redesign that 5A Design was working on.

To improve the experience for readers and users of the magazine, we customised Wagtail, making the portal much more intuitive and interactive.

Final result

Tendenze is the magazine and house organ of GS1 Italy, holding unique importance for the organization and its goals.

The final result is a completely restructured platform:

  • The entire Tendenze archive has been migrated: 10 years of information have been incorporated into the new portal in a fresh format.
  • New features have been implemented for the editorial staff responsible for content management, and features for the magazine's readers have been improved, such as search, content classification, and display of related and author lists;
  • The user experience has been improved, allowing users to navigate the platform intuitively and seamlessly, following a path that matches their interests and preferences.

The new version of the platform was developed with a strong focus on product aspects, given the portal's central role in the client's brand identity and objectives, while prioritising the needs of both behind-the-scenes users and daily readers of Tendenze.

We are proud to have contributed to another important project for GS1 Italy.
